YPN Posts Ad Placement Advice

Much like how Google publishes their Adsense heat map over at their Help Center, Yahoo! has decided do come up with some YPN ad placement advice over at their blog.

For the most part, the advice from both contextual advertising giants are the same. Ads close to content are good, leaderboards between content and top navigation are good. But the neverending debate over right sidebar skyscrapers versus left sidebar skyscrapers remains as Google recommends the left, while YPN the right. Personally, left sidebar skyscrapers work much better for me, but of course, this differs from blog to blog.

The key idea is to experiment. Use the data collected from Google or YPN’s channels, as well as a good ad tracking script, such as RevenueMonitor, to find the ad placements that work for you.
