YPN And Adsense: Wishful Thinking?
Over at ProBlogger, Darren announces his switch back to Adsense adverts after a trial with Yahoo! Publisher Network (YPN) ads. While the post includes many interesting points that could be relevant to this blog as well, I find myself resonating to his last paragraph:
Hopefully the YPN beta test will be widened in the coming months to include non US based bloggers also (I was lucky to have a way around this with b5 but know of many bloggers who are chafing at the bit to get in on it to see how it goes for them.
Being a non-US blogger can be pretty scary, especially if you stay where I stay, given the many recent account terminations Adsense has been issuing. Of course, this isn’t new, no matter where you are based. The DigitalPoint Adsense forums have enough of these “account termination for little reason” threads.
But only recently have I seen the very same for bloggers from my home country. If you want a few examples, see this post and this forum thread. The worst part of the whole thing is that many of the cases that local bloggers are involved in are caused by their own ignorance of Google’s TOS (which is seen again here). If this continues, all Malaysian bloggers might very well be banned by Google from Adsense. Even if such an extreme action doesn’t occur, there is little doubt that Malaysian bloggers will at the very least suffer from negative preconceptions (which in many cases, but not all, are true). After all, Malaysian bloggers are not too large a group, so a small number of cheaters can be a big proportion of the whole.
Therefore, I’ll repeat the recent pleas by local Adsense publisher that do things the right (legal) way: Please stop this nonsense. Google rarely gives a second chance. Cheaters could very well lose the chance to utilise arguably the best contextual advertising system around forever. Even YPN won’t save your butts if you do not abandon the cheating mentality. Please, oh please…

what makes this too bad is he’s Malaysian…didn’t he realize that he carries the name Malaysia in his blog?

Yeah, you’re right. Most people tend to forget that when their online, given the zero-border nature of the web. Normally, that’s not a problem, but when illegal acts start being committed, that’s a whole different story…

[...] I concur, but that’s all I’m going to say about this for now. After all, I’ve written a pretty long rant on this already. So, just consider this post as a reminder of my stand against Adsense fraud. 4th Feb | [...]
