WP-Sociable – An Icon-Powered Post Submission Plugin

In my previous post on Post Submission Buttons for WordPress (to Digg, My Yahoo, etc.), I highlighted a few methods to include this functionality in your posts. Then, only one plugin was available, i.e. ak-bookmark, and that one did not have icon functionality available (only text links for post submission), as seen below.

A new plugin – WP-Sociable – is out at MaxPower, and this one has almost the same ease of use as ak-bookmark, but instead displays the various icons (rather than text links) for all the social bookmarking services, as seen in the example given by the author below.

WP-Sociable has several advantages over ak-bookmark. For one, it allows CSS styling of the images through the CSS class=”socialbkmark”. WP-Sociable also provides 9 social bookmarking services to post to, in contrast to ak-bookmark’s 8 (yeah, I know it’s not a big difference). But ak-bookmark still remains easier to use because the enabling and disabling of the various services can be done within the administration panel, while WP-Sociable requires you to do this:

<?php wp_sociable(’simpy,delicious,yahoo,digg’); ?>

It’s still very easy though. And the best thing about WP-Sociable is that it is still in the beta stage, so we can probably expect many more features by the time it exits the beta stage.

    Thanks for the link. I agree with your final paragraph. Ultimately, I would like to see this plugin work with quicktags, so the user can decide on a post by post basis which bookmarking services they would like to use.

    Cross your fingers.

    I think its more appropriate for me to say thanks for your great plugin. :) I’ve always wanted icons for post submission on some of my blogs.
