WordPress: Lightbox Plugin

Got news of this new plugin via Blogging Pro today. The Lightbox plugin basically supercharges all your thumbnail image links to full size images:

…turns posted images into neat Javascript-powered overlay popups instead of just linking to the fullsize image.

What is it good for?
It scans your posts for linked images and makes a nice overlay popup out of them. This is much better then linking to a new window oder even open a fullblown javascript popup. This is a neat little thing and shows a small preloader animation before showing the full image.

You can get the plugin here, but before you do so, you can check out how it works by clicking on the image below.

Pretty cool, and its particularly useful if you haven’t implemented the Javascript to handle full size images (i.e. launch in new window, etc.). And since this plugin produces overlays, it won’t trigger popup blockers either. But overlays could actually prove to be a nuisance if readers regularly view full size images and would like to open them in new windows instead. Perhaps the plugin could have an option to launch full size images in new windows as well?
