The Blog Herald Redesigns: Above-Bottom-Fold Layout Introduced
As was announced earlier, The Blog Herald (TBH) has undergone an “extreme makeover” design-wise – switching from its relatively drab prior three-column design to a newspaper-ish multi-column above-bottom-fold layout courtesy of Chris Pearson. Yeah, that’s a mouthful all right. So, you’ll have to check out the site itself to understand what I mean.
Remember when we discussed the above-bottom-fold layout earlier and I said most “commercial blogs” haven’t and wouldn’t start entering the platform any time soon? Well, it seems The Blog Herald has decided to give it at try, but if you’ve seen Chris Pearson’s creation, you’ll instantly see how suitable it is for TBH. Somehow, Chris has managed to combine the newsy commercial multi-column layout with a personal blog-style bottom-of-the-fold container on the main page, with an oldish (and grayscale) Victorian-style theme blending the two together.
But since the redesign is happening live, I hope the final design is pushed a notch up in terms of usability. A top-bar navigation menu, or at least, an anchor link to the bottom-of-the-fold container, would definitely help.
P.S.: The redesign seems to have brought with it some not-unexpected extras. For one, we have a picture-in-picture marketing-style feed listing of The Blog Herald’s sister blog, Blog Network Watch. Secondly, we have a short list of the “Blogger Jobs” available on the market – such as TechCrunch’s recent advertisement for an intern – which is a feed listing of another BlogMedia blog, BloggerJobs.
