Number of Japanese Blogs Has Tripled
…almost. Compared to the 3.35 million figure for May 2005, the total of 8.68 million Japanese blogs at the end of March 2006 represents a 2.6-fold increase.
More statistically-minded bloggers would probably have guessed this rate of growth months before, when David Silfry published his April 2006 State of the Blogosphere report - where 35% of all posts indexed by Technorati in March 2006 were in the Japanese language. This was an 11% increase from the 24% figure in May 2005. Of course, while this could be attributed to higher posting frequency, there’s really little doubt that the number of Japanese blogs would have had to grow significantly as well in order to keep up with the growth in English blogs.
This probably won’t mean anything to most bloggers, but it’s always useful to remind ourselves that English isn’t the main blogging language (based on T’rati, Japanese is), and hasn’t been for many months now. So, like Darren Rowse asked in May, does anyone want to translate this blog into Japanese?
