Finally: Official Ad Rank Explanation

Over at Inside Adsense (the official Adsense blog), a concise explanation of how Ad Rank – a value which is used to determine the order adverts are displayed on your blog – is calculated. Fundamentally, adverts that have the highest Ad Rank will be displayed on your site.

Now, I think it was never a secret that an advertiser’s cost per click (CPC) bid was an important determinant in Ad Rank. That’s why there was and still is all the talk about using Overture’s Bid Tool or the AdWords Pricing Estimator to determine the highest paying adverts. But it seems that there are other factors that make this algorithm a bit more complex, including Quality Score.

So, for a nice explanation of all this, you’ll have to head to Inside Adsense.
