Comment Subscriptions: Subscribe To Comments 2.0
A post by Chris Garett over at Performancing today reminds me of email comment subscriptions (and the lack of it on a few of my blogs, including blogHelper). I suppose it is high time I implemented it on this blog. At the same time, I’ll detail the implementation process below.
A Google search for a plugin solution for WordPress will yield you Subscribe To Comments 2.0, an significantly upgraded version of Jennifer’s original Subscribe To Comments.
The plugin is easy to install (which is the norm with WordPress plugins), with only two files to upload. One to the main directory, the other to the plugins folder. After installation (and activation), the next step is to test the plugin. You can see the comments used to make the test in my previous post. Comment 4 was the one I used to subscribe to the comments of that post, while Comment 5 was a followup comment to trigger a notification to the address I used for Comment 4.
The email notification looks like this:
[blogHelper] New Comment On: YPN And Adsense: Wishful Thinking?
There is a new comment on the post “YPN And Adsense: Wishful Thinking?”.

Note: The two links above have been truncated to prevent layout problems.
There’s only one thing to look out for when using this plugin. Some web hosts will limit the number of emails you can send in a certain time period, in order to prevent email spamming from occuring. Usually though, it is unlikely that you will pass this limit if you are only hosting a single blog in the account.
So, that’s it with comment subscriptions for now. I bid Subscribe To Comments 2.0 welcome to blogHelper.
P.S.: I don’t think there are alternative plugins for WordPress out there. So, STC 2.0 is probably your only solution for email comment subscriptions. But it’s like this probably because STC 2.0 is an almost perfect solution for WordPress-powered blogs.
If you found this post useful, keep updated with future posts by subscribing to blogHelper (for free) through RSS or email.
