Getting Comments: The Simplest Approach

We just heard about link baiting. What about comment baiting getting comments? It may not make you blogger-gold, a.k.a. traffic, but it sure will increase your blog’s stickiness, and encourage greater interaction between blogger and reader.

So, what’s the simplest approach to comment baiting getting comments? Well… ask for it. That’s exactly what Easton at BusinessBlogWire did today. And it managed to get me - a new reader to BBW - to comment. Trust me, I don’t comment much outside my blogs simply because I prefer trackbacking.

It may not always work, and will definitely not work if you do it too often. But sometimes you just have to be a little shameless to get things done. If everyone is willing to shamelessly promote their blogs, why not shamelessly ask for comments?

I may not have done it here yet, but I sure will in the future. Count on it.

Update: ProBlogger already has a useful post on getting comments, which while written two years back, is still as relevant today.

Edit: My use of the word “baiting” might have been incorrect here. As “baiting” = lure, entice, attract, asking for comments would be too direct to be considered “baiting”. I’ve thus replaced “comment baiting” with “getting comments”.

Darn, you got to it before I did. But yeah, comment baiting would be more indirect than simply asking.

Lol. But when I think about it, that mistake would have qualified as comment baiting - though it wouldn’t bait the type of comments you’d normally like.

ZMAng, thanks for noticing my attempt to learn more about my blog readers. I was hoping someone would at least notice that all I did was directly ask for comments. While I’m disappointed that so far only several people have responded, I’m still pleased that I’ve gotten to discover a few folks who typically have remained silent readers or who are new to my blog.

It’s a great thing to to invite conversation and learn from other people - just ASK them for ideas, questions, suggestions, opinions, etc.

Indeed, I think many of us tend to forget that we’re talking to live and intellgent people - and Darren Rowse, as usual, has a piece right along this alley.

In the last week I have read two good posts on getting more comments, BusinessBlogWire’s Who Are You - Who, Who? I Really Wanna Know and blogHelper’s Getting Comments: The Simplest Approach which both techniques to increasing the number of comments that you receive. Well I just did that yesterday on my blog with a blog titled ” What does it takes for visitors on my blogs?

This morning I got someone commenting on it. I guess if you don’t ask, you won’t receive it.

    Have a good day.
