blogHelper Redesign Complete (or At Least, I Hope So)
If you aren’t reading this post in your favourite feed reader, you’ll notice that blogHelper has undergone a design change - as hinted earlier.
Like Technosailor, a revamp of blog architecture has also occured - though “revamp” may be too strong a word. Instead of replacing view modes, I’ve merely supplemented the traditional reverse chronological view mode with another three and a half new views. I have no intention of allowing users to set these supplemental views as default modes, at least not in the near future.
I’ll follow up with some design notes (attribution and all) very soon. For now, feel free to look around. I’ll also be very grateful if you reported any bugs.
Edit: Yet again, Darren Rowse at ProBlogger amazes me with his prescience.
He has just published a post on reinventing your blog, where he describes a redesign + new features as ways to do so. Only a couple of months back, he published what I called a “ridiculously excellently-timed post”.
P.S.: For those who’ve been emailing and commenting, I apologize for the lack of replies. I’ve only recently returned from a trip to my home town, and will start catching up soon.
If you found this post useful, keep updated with future posts by subscribing to blogHelper (for free) through RSS or email.

Nice. Post dates are in an unstyled format in a couple of the views though, e.g. 20-4-2006 10:30am, rather than April 20th, 2006.

How’re you getting CSS popups to work on an image map (i.e. the Select View buttons at the top)?
Excuse my manners. Demands so quickly, hehe.
Nothing seems to break for me. I’m using FF 2.0.

Oops, the CSS popups you’re using to explain the views doesn’t seem to work in IE 7.

Arghh… sorry, sorry. Could you please modify the website URL I’ve entered into the comments? I’ve accidentally typed in an extra .com (stupid autocomplete!).

The four views are a nice innovation. My only niggle is that I find the black labels at the right to be a bit overwhelming. Perhaps reduce the height by about a third and go with more of a charcoal than pure black. Keep up the good work.

zellish: Yeah, that’s a known bug I’m still working on. I can’t seem to use WordPress’ in-built the_time() for some of the views yet, so I’m calling it directly from the database.
Westen: Yeah, I can’t get the CSS popups to work with IE because the hidden text still seems to take up space, so I’ve disabled it completely. The stuff is basically a modification of code available at CSS Play.
Mark: Thanks. Yeah, now that I look at it, you’re probably right. It is a bit too strong.
