Big Blog Succumbs to Comment Closure
Via Geek News Central, there’s news that the Washington Post blogs have their comments shut down temporarily until a better discussion format (or a better implementation of comments) comes up. According to the official Washington Post blog post, hate speech, personal attacks and profanity were the cause of this move.
In my opinion, it is a pity that one of the most important aspects of blogs have been shut down in the Washington Post blogs. But, if Washington Post’s statement is true, it is even worse to see so many readers complain that the Post is trying to stifle negative feedback. There’s really no strong reason for this, especially since tons of other political blog can easily take up the slack.
But admittedly, the Post could just put up with the hate speech and all, like most political blogs do. I guess it just boils down to the different principles bloggers adhere to.
