Adsense - Changes For The Worse?

Two drastic news bites regarding our most favourite revenue source - Google Adsense - over at JenSense will definitely catch your eye:

  1. Silent 90-day Expiry on Adsense Referals
3 months? Unless you already run an established site / blog, you’re unlikely to be able to reach the first payout within 90 days. Like Jen, I say at least 180 days, but even that is a bit short. The one year that Chitika provides would not be unreasonable.
  2. Beta Tests for Rich Media Ads Started
Another not-so-good development, at least for me. I severely detest interstitials and floating ads. I’m not sure about expanding ads though. But the worst part is the potential loss of diversification if Google decides to include rich media ads into their arsenal. As Jen points out, Google could very well begin treating Fastclick and co. ads as competitive ads, and therefore, leaving us with (almost) pure Adsense on our pages. What next? Chitika-style ads?

Just check out the comments sections at ProBlogger and the respective JenSense posts for negative opinions from other Adsense publishers (esp. towards the silent 90-day limit).

[…] So, what does poor linkblogging mean? Basically, it means linking “…without (providing) additional value.” Even for speedlinking-linkblog-style posts (such as this one), where links are often accompanied by just one-liner descriptions and personal opinions, there is still value-added when you provide your take on the issue. But strip your own spin away from this sort of posts and you plunge into the empty linking habit. Of course, I’d be lying if I said I haven’t done it myself, though sometimes exceptions must be made if you really must… […]
